Matilda: 5 activities for exploring the story with the whole school

Matilda Activities.png

Earlier this term we shared our book choices for World Book Day 2020. The power of a good book selection is something the protagonist of this week’s focus story understands! Our previous blog explored Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox, and this week we are looking at another Dahl classic…

Matilda by Roald Dahl

Who is it for?

This story is well known and loved by all learners from Reception to Year 6.

Why do we love this book?

Books, bravery and a sprinkling of magic? What’s not to love!

Matilda is a brilliant example of Roald Dahl’s fairytale-esque writing and raises some interesting issues that can be used for class discussions. Even more than that, it is a story driven by strong female characters, with Matilda showing children the power of kindness, friendship and a good book.
