Locations

Where do you visit?

This summer we are able to visit most of England. We can bring the performance to schools from the South Coast to Manchester (approximately within the area bounded by Liverpool, Leeds, Hull, Kent and Weymouth.)

The performers and stage management live in London and Brighton, and in order to visit schools far from these places there will be an additional cost for travel expenses.

There are no travel expenses for the following schools:

  • Schools inside the M25

  • Schools with postcodes beginning BN, BR, KT, RH

  • Schools in postcode districts GU1 to GU8 or GU26 to GU30

  • Schools in postcode districts PO1 to PO22

  • Schools in postcode districts TN1 to TN22, with the exception of TN12

Suitability

Are your shows suitable for SEN schools?

Yes, we are happy to bring our performance to SEN schools. We do use hand bikes, recumbent bikes and conventional bikes, so there’s lots of ways to get involved. The more information we have about your children’s needs ahead of time the more we can ensure a positive experience for all. If you have questions about suitability or any specific requirements please get in touch and we will be happy to answer any questions.

Do you perform for Reception and Nursery classes?

The show has been designed for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 children. We are sure Reception will enjoy the singing and storytelling, but the bikes will be a little too large for them to power. So Reception are welcome to join in the audience if there is room. Experience tells us that this show isn’t right for Nursery children, so we ask that they don’t join the audience on this occasion.

Preparing for the performance

What are the space requirements?

The show is designed to be performed outdoors - so a school playground or playing field is perfect! The show requires an 8m (width) x 4m (depth) performance area, plus space to seat 120 children in separated bubbles either in front of or around the performance area. Access is required to set up two hours before the first performance.

Our team will bring everything that they need. All we require for the performance is a playground (or other outdoor performance space), access to this space for one van, plus parking for one car.

During the day please can we also have access to the school so that the touring team can use the toilets and make themselves a cup of tea.

Wet Weather

What happens if it rains?

Bicycle Boy has had plenty of practise performing in the elements! The show can go on as planned in light rain, providing the school is happy for the children to sit outside in rain coats - we have umbrellas for the teachers! Children should bring a plastic supermarket bag or old raincoat to sit on in case the ground is damp - and we can also use gym benches etc if appropriate.

When you book with us we will ask if you have access to a large indoor space, such as a school hall, that we can use in the event of heavy rain. If it is not possible to use an indoor space due to Covid-restrictions or other limitations, then we will work with you to reschedule the show for a dry day!

Covid Safety

Is the show Covid-secure?

Bicycle Boy has been adapted with help from health and safety consultants, and two different councils, to make the show as COVID-secure as possible. This includes:

  • Seating the audience in class bubbles, with aisles between classes.

  • Seating the audience 4 metres from the performers.

  • Adding a hand-washing song - a fun way for us to pause the show for everyone to sanitise regularly.

  • Disinfecting the bicycles between every user.

  • Re-working moments of audience participation in the show to remove any contact between performers and audience.

Additionally we are doing everything we can to look after our company and our audiences. This includes:

  • Testing all company members (lateral flow testing) twice a week.

  • Having a COVID officer on tour, who will monitor any changes to guidelines and the health and well-being of our company.

What happens if the school needs to close?

If government guidelines change and preclude us from being able to visit the school, then we will offer an alternative date and if that isn’t possible we will of course refund your deposit.

Safety

Can I see a copy of your risk assessment?

All of the Bicycle Boy safety information, including risk assessments and insurance details, is available for schools to read online ahead of the visit.

Are the performers DBS checked?

All of the Bicycle Boy team hold a current, enhanced DBS which they will bring with them along with photo ID when they visit your school. They have also been doing twice-weekly lateral flow tests for Covid-safety.
