Live and breathe Shakespeare’s language in an interactive drama workshop from an actor’s perspective
Shakespeare in Action drama workshops invite your KS3 students to approach the Bard’s plays from an actor’s perspective. Using the techniques that a professional actor would use in a rehearsal room today, sessions give students ownership of Shakespeare’s text by encouraging them to explore the characters through their physicality and voice.
Guided by a professional actor, the fast-paced, class-by-class sessions use a series of carefully curated drama-based activities to explore key moments, characters, and extracts from your chosen play. By putting the text up on its feet and by drawing out the emotions of the characters, the language takes on new life while the plot can gain new meaning. By the end of the workshop, students will be excited and engaged, which will in turn lead to insightful writing and analysis of the play in future.

These workshops are for students who are studying (or about to study) your chosen play. At the start of each session, our facilitator will gauge how familiar the class is with the text. They will then adapt the session according to the knowledge and abilities of the group by choosing from the activities that our workshop creators have put together. The longer the session, the more content we can cover.
During the sessions pupils will develop their knowledge of the plot and the characters. Language and quotes are introduced throughout the session as the students explore key moments and scenes through movement and performance. Guided by a professional facilitator, the sessions use drama techniques from professional theatre to create a positive experience of Shakespeare’s writing in a physical, interactive and engaging way.
