Poetry workshops for primary schools using the skills and techniques of professional theatre

Our Poetry Explorer drama workshop takes the classic Rum Tum Tugger poem and brings it to life in your school hall.

Using text as a stimulus, your children will explore the characters and imagery from a physical perspective. By creating their own version of the world behind the verse, they will lift the words off the page and into their imaginations.

Our facilitators are not only experts at exploring poetry and stories with children, but they’re also professional actors. By working alongside them, children will learn that poems are far more than words on a page.

Rum Tum Tugger comes from T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, a collection of whimsical poems about feline characters and the basis for the musical Cats. During the workshop children will engage with the world of the poem in a fun, imaginative and active way, developing confidence alongside physical literacy and presentation skills. They will explore the rhythm of the poem, imagine and become the characters and work together to recreate the poem as a group.
