Celebrate the spirit of flamenco tangos
A vibrant celebration of Spanish culture through rhythm, movement, and voice – specially created for primary schools.
In this high-energy dance workshop, your children will work with a West End in Schools professional dancer, to explore the music, rhythm and expression of Spanish culture through the joyful and accessible flamenco tangos dance style.
Created with acclaimed flamenco dancer Magdalena Mannion, this class-by-class workshop for Nursery to Year 6 brings an authentic, celebratory Spanish experience into your school.
Combining elements of Spanish vocabulary and history with traditional movement and music, the sessions are carefully tailored to each year group, so that every child can engage and learn about the dance style and its culture, while developing key skills in confidence, teamwork and physical literacy.
To accompany the movement, international flamenco singer Anna Colom provides exclusive recorded music and vocals - with an English translation - created especially for West End in Schools.
Each workshop session concludes with a performance moment, when children perform a two minute flamenco-inspired movement sequence to their class teacher.
- We work with individual classes for sessions of between 35 and 50 minutes.
- We can run up to seven 35 minute sessions per day.
- To work with fewer classes we can visit for just an afternoon or morning session.
- To work with more than seven classes we can visit across multiple days.
- We will send you a suggested timetable when you enquire and will work with you to create a timetable that works for your school day.
- The main workshop is differentiated for Reception to Year 6, with taster sessions available for Nursery classes if required.
- Discover the multicultural roots of flamenco, with influences from Africa, the Caribbean, and North Africa
- Explore Spanish geography, traditions, and vocabulary
- Listen to a Spanish singer, and call out traditional responses in Spanish
- Understand how feelings can be expressed through music, words, and dance
- Build confidence and creativity through movement and group improvisation.
