Exploring Children’s Books Through Dance
Join us for an evening of CPD developing techniques to build confidence in exploring children’s books through dance with primary school children.
Storytelling through dance can be a fantastic way of sparking children’s imaginations, bringing fictional lands and inventive characters to life.
‘Exploring Children’s Books Through Dance’ is a hands-on session equipping teachers with a toolkit of dance techniques. Learn methods for developing perspective on character and setting, as well as physical storytelling, which can be used with primary school children from Reception to Year Six.
The Masterclass, led by our Creative Director, will be a practical exploration of the topic, equipping you with a variety of activities for approaching the subject with 4-11 year olds. You will be given ideas to take you and your class right through from warm up to performance exploring your favourite book. Activities covered include:
Warming up for a dance class - breaking down inhibitions.
Sparking creativity - ways to generate original ideas.
Exploring the story physically - moving through environments and embodying characters.
Creating a sequence - choreographic techniques for bringing your book to life!
Following this there will be a Q&A and discussion. And the evening has plenty of opportunities to network with other teachers and our creative team.
Attendees will come away with:
A set of tools for approaching creative topics with primary school children
Confidence in leading creative activities
Knowledge of how to use performing arts activities as a stimulus for cross-curricular activity (such as PE or creative writing)
A resource pack containing handy notes about what was covered in the Masterclass
A certificate of completion
